A Flexible, Person-Centred Curriculum
At Beechwood College we support our students to access meaningful, transferable learning opportunities that are adapted to their unique learning styles. A consistent and structured approach to student support is embedded in our educational ethos.
We offer a broad, balanced and person-centred curriculum that is tailored to each student’s personal interests and learning goals.
Education is delivered by experienced Lecturers and Learning Support Assistants and is enhanced by current research and documented best practice, enabling us to deliver a range of education approaches that are modern, evidence-based, and adapted to our students’ assessed needs.
We understand that the involvement of families, carers, and wider circles of support is essential in supporting the progress and development of every young person. This involvement is guaranteed by our family friendly, open-door policy – our aim is to provide progressive support, guidance, and advice, whether that’s at an open day, parents evening, or simply over an impromptu cuppa! We believe that the most successful placements happen when we all work together, and co-production is at the heart of everything we do at Beechwood College.

Our students’ successes are supported by the highest standards of education and care, delivered by an experienced and committed team with a shared set of guiding principles.
Our integrated learning approach, which involves collaboration between our education, clinical, and residential teams, provides each student with a therapeutic 24-hour learning environment and support tailored to their specific needs.
Unlike mainstream further education establishments, Beechwood College measures success based on the student as an individual, with person-centred education and support plans co-produced with each student, their families, and wider circles of support.
Beyond formal qualifications, we support our students to build essential, transferable skills that consider their current and future needs, vocation and work aspirations, and meaningful individualised goals and ambitions.
We aim to create an inclusive college culture that supports students holistically and empowers them as valued members of our college community.
We promote self-belief and positive self-image, building confidence through celebration, recognition and encouragement.
We ensure that our students and staff are treated as valued members of our Beechwood College community, and challenge prejudice on all levels.
We work closely with staff, families, students and their wider circles of support to ensure that decisions are mutually agreed, and that everyone has a voice.
We work to prepare our students for the next stage in their lives through teaching and developing essential social, independence and academic skills.
We work to forge strong links with the wider community, providing community inclusion opportunities to our students wherever possible, empowering our students to build connections and grow their skills in the community.
