Following a comprehensive assessment of each student’s individual needs, our Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) develops and delivers personalised therapeutic programmes tailored to support their learning, wellbeing and development.

Our therapeutic specialisms include:

  • Speech and Language Therapy (SALT)
  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Clinical Psychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Dietetics
  • Physiotherapy

We believe that the most effective outcomes are achieved through collaboration. Our clinical and therapy teams work closely with education and residential staff, parents, carers and wider circles of support to ensure therapeutic strategies are embedded consistently across college, home and community settings.

Through this integrated and person-centred approach, we help students overcome barriers, build independence, develop confidence and achieve the best possible outcomes in education and everyday life.

Positive Behavioural Support

At Beechwood College, we understand that some students may find it difficult to communicate their thoughts, feelings, needs or distress through conventional means. When this happens, communication may be expressed through behaviours that others find challenging. We view these behaviours as a form of communication and seek to understand the underlying reasons behind them in a compassionate, respectful and person-centred way.

Our multidisciplinary team works collaboratively with students, families, carers, wider circles of support, and staff to develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans that promote wellbeing, independence and positive outcomes. Each plan is informed by a thorough assessment that explores the potential causes and functions of behaviour, alongside the student’s strengths, preferences, interests and existing coping strategies.

By understanding not only what may trigger distress but also what motivates, engages and supports each student, we can create tailored strategies that help them feel safe, understood and respected.
